Помогите, пожалуйста, разобраться в разнице между profit и bottom line. Не думал, что придется искать различие, но столкнулся со следующим контекстом (в целом речь в тексте идет о реструктуризации системы участия сотрудников в прибылях)

If profit sharing payouts during the former transition had not been based on profits, where did the money come from to pay the overage in the past?
