As the term identified matches one of teh ones I had, I have a preference for бухгалтер. Also useful that it is a short word.

Thanks

Notes to answerer
Asker: Maksym, Thanks for your answer, however, I am trying to avoid any terms which relate to 'bookkeeper' which in the UK is a 'technician' level of the accounting profession.

Explanation:
Accountant: this is not a simply "bookkeeper" as the same in Russia as "бухгалтер". It's a more than just a bookeeper and closer to "финансовый аналитик" but is not the same.

In a common usage in Russia - yes, it's a "бухгалтер". But if you want to use this word in an exact meaning, the correct form is "главный бухгалтер".

In Russian there is a big difference between the meaning of "bookkeeper" (бухгалтер) and "accountant" (главный бухгалтер) as in English too.

Please, just look:

and
Am I an Accountant or a Bookkeeper? What is the difference?
http://www.accounting-and-bookkeeping-tips.com/learning-acco...

I think, accountant has to set up the bookkeeping in a company totally, has to manage this, and interpret the results to give an appropriate infos to the management of the company for making decisions (this as a part of accountant's job which is something like of "financial analysis").

Citation:
"The accounting process is much less mechanical and more subjective. It begins with designing a system that will benefit the business, by capturing the financial information in a useful manner without being overly burdensome to the bookkeeper. Once set up, the accountant monitors the system to ensure it's doing what it's supposed to do. And finally, on a monthly basis usually, the accountant presents the financial statements to the business management in such a way that decisions can be made".

But in a most cases there are no differencies between (in a common usage).
