Похоже, что это не брэнды, а товарные знаки (тем более по соседству с патентами)... Впрочем, не знаю.

В принципе, касательно терминов "торговые марки" и "товарные знаки", лучше спросить у юристов, т.к. в словаре это - синонимы, а в жизни нужно проверять какой из терминов "официально прописан" в соответствующем законодательстве :)
