Вы очки-то когда-нибудь носили? Или хотя бы присматривались? Поясняю, как устроены современные оправы. От передней части, к которой крепятся линзы, отходят два коротких металлических штырька, которые на концах заужены. На эти концы надеваются сменные заушины, которые могут металлическими, пластиковыми, резиновыми. Если заушина сломалась или надоела, ее можно поменять, оставив дорогие части оправы. То, что вы процитировали (heat and remove) как раз и описывает процесс смены заушины.

This is also the difference made in the link sas_proz provided (but apparently didn't study). It says:
1. Straighten the temple 2. Heat and remove the temple tip.

P.S. It's not for nothing they are called "tips".
