English term or phrase: split-plot design

Each trial of this experiment was divided into three separate phases for statistical analysis: 1) the cage-brooding phase, 2) litter floor-brooding phase, and 3) the grow-out phase. Individual trial design for each section was a randomized complete block. Data for each trial was combined for the statistical analysis to create a split-plot design. The litter floor and cage brooding sections used a split-plot design with trial considered the main plot. In the grow-out phase, trials were combined with season and
tested with an error term of trials within season; the remaining treatments were tested with the within-block error term.
