Explanation:
Hi,
Let me cite Britannica:
==================
Calamity Jane,
byname of MARTHA JANE BURKE, n?e CANNARY (b. May 1852?, near Princeton, Mo.?, U.S.--d. Aug. 1, 1903, Terry, near Deadwood, S.D.), legendary American frontierswoman whose name was often linked with that of Wild Bill Hickok. The facts of her life are confused by her own inventions and by the successive stories and legends that accumulated in later years.
==================================

As for Catherine wheels, I think it was NEVER relate to Russian (Soviet) army.
So, please get the help from famous Lingvo 6.5 (edition of 2000)
=============
Catherine-wheel сущ. 1) вращающееся колесо с фейерверками, расположенными по окружности Syn: firework, fireworks 2) архит. круглое окно, 'роза' 3) кувырканье 'колесом'
============
Thus, you can translate it in very different ways! Depends very on the whole context!

Calamity Jane - Каламити Джейн

Explanation:
The only female gunslinger in the American Old West lore. The name Calamity implies trouble, and she was notorious for stirring it up, in a big way :-)
Catherine wheels were explained above, rather well, I think.

...взорвется, сея вокруг себя несчастья...

Explanation:
As legendary as Calamity Jane is in America, the name would say little to a Russian reader, I am afraid. "33 несчастья/ходячая беда/an accident on her way to happen" could be variants to render the meaning, but to reconcile it with the context is a challenge here, hence - my attempt:
..лопнет, сея вокруг несчастья, как какая-нибудь начинённая бедами (вместо конфетти) петарда, или как бишь там эти снаряды называются, - да, по-моему, шутихи и фейерверки, рассыпающие огненные брызги.
