Explanation:
Обыскав все, что возможно, я нашел только "склоны, откосы". Возможно, в книге опечатка и надо braces, которое Jonathon Green в Slang Down the Ages дает как longish underpants with suspenders, отсылая нас к 17 веку. В приведенной книге автор мог использовать это слово для более раннего периода.
