Что имеют в виду здесь под этим словом? Покрытие 1) быстро "слезало" (т.е. было недолговечным), или что 2) его использовали недолго?
В пользу второго варианта говорит логика (чтобы с мотоциклов H-D быстро сходила краска?!). В пользу первого варианта говорит следующее предложение: "...has been used for many years..."
