Двигатель ПМЗ был скопирован не с Харлея, а с Индиана. Самое заметное отличие индиановского мотора от харлеевского - кожух моторной передачи. В Индиана он литой алюминиевый герметичный, потому как привод на коробку был шестеренчатым с паразитной шестерней, а в Харлея моторная передача прикрывалась кожухом из штампованного железа (как на большинстве моторов той поры), и была цепной.
