Risk Based Approach
The previous methodology required the use of a Coverage methodology where the goal was to conduct testing in markets that generated 60-75% of the general ledger account balance(s) (i.e., the **Significant Accounts) relevant to the process. This is no longer a required methodology and instead, Process Owners should refocus their testing of multi-location controls on risk rather than coverage.
In determining the locations at which to perform tests of controls, it should be first confirmed that the significant account associated with the SOX process is relevant and present (as a Financial Statement line item) at the individual locations. If not, the location should not be considered for testing.
