IMHO: Коль скоро речь у Вас идет о том, что у нас принято называть "открытым уроком" (если я правильно понимаю суитацию), то он (т.е. полагаю, преподаватель) дал открытый урок, основной целью которого являлось выполнение тренировочных упражнений по заданной теме.
