По аналогии с проректорами по учебно-воспитательной работе, хозяйственной деятельности и т.д. Директор - потому что это "Senior Management position", как указано в тексте по одной из вышеприведенных ссылок. К тому же в приведенным тексте указывается, что в подчинении данного сотрудника находятся заведующие все общежитий данного учебного заведения.

Подходит в контексте как школ-интернатов, так и университетских общежитий.
