"the participant put little effort into...", поэтому и отметили, что попало, не глядя, не вникая в суть, для галочки проставили галочки и т.п. варианты, указывающие на небрежное, "отфонарное" заполнение этих самых checklists. Да еще и галочки ставили небрежно, чтобы побыстрей отделаться. Никакой попытки подтасовки или фальсификации там не было.
если взбивать тесто пальцем, а не соответствующим инструментом, результат будет соответствующего качества. Какие в русском языке есть аналоги - на скорую руку, спустя рукава, левой ногой и т.п.?
