the context is the following "the freight of a pound of cotton is equal to so much callico /sic!/"

Легкая хлопчатобумажная ткань полотняного переплетения, полученная
в результате отделки миткаля.

Широко известны во всем мире так называемые ивановские ситцы с рисунком
в мелкий цветочек на светлом или темном фоне.
Первые чехлы для мебели были сделаны из ситца, который был завезен из Индии в 1700-х годах группой французских декораторов.

Практически моментально элита общества стала использовать чехлы из ситца, чтобы защитить обивку мебели из дорогого шелка и парчи.

В американских домах ситец стал популярным в 1950-х годах, как разновидность обивки мебели.

В основном для ситца используется свободный рисунок — цветы, птицы, всевозможные узоры. Используется для постельного белья, чехлов, платьев, детской и спортивной одежды.

Рекомендуется профессиональная чистка и стирка.

Ситец набивной

Хлопковая ткань, превосходящая по качеству перкаль.
Набивные ситцы были импортированы в Европу из Индии в период Ренессанса. С тех пор его стали изготавливать в Европе и в Соединенных Штатах. Набивной ситец был особенно популярен в Америке в течение 19-го столетия. Рисунок часто был с геометрическими формами, но главным образом изображали птиц, деревья и цветы. Использовался на платьях, шлейфах и лоскутных стеганых одеялах.
