внештатный сотрудник (работник) + см. ниже

Если нужно разграничить, то employee я бы перевел как "наемный сотрудник (работник)" или "штатный сотрудник (работник)" или "сотрудник, работающий по найму" или "работающий по найму" - в зависимости от предпочтений автора перевода, а collaborator - как "внештатный сотрудник (работник)".
