The independent Judicial Appointments Commission (COMMISSION) selects candidates
for judicial office on merit, through fair and open competition from the widest range of
eligible candidates. It was set up to maintain and strengthen Judicial independence by taking
responsibility for selecting candidates for Judicial Office out of the hands of the politically
appointed Lord Chancellor while making the appointments process clearer and more
accountable.

В Англии лорд-канцлер (так же как и кабинет министров) назначается правящей партией, тогда как судьи (так же как и гражданские служащие) являются независимыми от партии, находящейся у власти.
