below the line ("то, что под чертой") Explanation: Sometime in the middle of the past century one of the chiefs of some major company was drawing an estimate of prospective marketing expenses. Having included in it standard components (media, television and radio advertising, PR, design of new packaging etc.) he calculated expenditures, drew a line, and suddenly recalled that he didn’t take into account free sampling of the goods and expenses for organizing a town festival at which people would try products manufactured by his company. He counted all extra expenses and made up the final estimate. Such is the story of origin оf term BTL – things that are below the line. Gradually BTL tools have become widely spread because of their high effectiveness in the field of sales promotion, increase volumes of sales and consumption. http://www.m-c.ru/ing/btl.htm

Of course, Explanation: the answer was quite helpful, but BELLOW and BELOW have... er...somewhat different meaning... It would be reasonable if you DON'T USE the expression BELLOW-the-line in your work. People will laugh if you do. |
