Structurally, chitosan is a linear polysaccharide consisting of |3 (l-4)-linked 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucose (D-glucosamine) and 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose (N-acetyl-D glucosamine) units, and it is very similar to cellulose, which is made up of |3 (l-4)-linked D-glucose units, and in which there are hydroxyl groups at C2 positions of the glucose rings
