Таким образом, согласно последнему источнику, creeping substitution отличается тем, что происходит в глубине кости, где нет сформированной системы костных каналов. Мне от этого только хуже, т.к. в авторском предложении речь идет о поверхности кости.

Всем спасибо. Владимиру Лукайкину хочу сказать, что ползучий трансплантат, несмотря на то, что вы его нашли в англо-русском медицинском словаре (что повлияло на вашу уверенность в ответе и на несколько "agree"), здесь не подходит, поскольку никакого трансплантата тут нет: была своя кость, часть ее погибла, а потом заместилась собственной тканью -- без какого-либо хирургического вмешательства.

Отдельное спасибо Мартиник. Только концепция эта, как оказалось, не новая: покопавшись в буржуйских книгах я смог ее проследить аж до 1970-го года, и то в учебной книжке -- значит, появилась она и того раньше.

Ну и наконец спасибо Вере. Хоть сомнения по поводу того, как лучше писать "ползучее замещение" (ваш вариант) или ползучее костеобразование (вариант Мартиник) остались, выбираю "замещение". Раз директор МОНИКИ в вашей ссылке так говорит, то и я могу. Четыре очка ваши!

Говорят, говорят. И ползучее замещение говорят (Вера уже приводила ссылку - вот она еще раз: http://www.litrossia.ru/litrossia/viewitem?item_id=17709), и замещение ползучим трансплантатом говорят. Просто, вероятно, технология новая и термин в русском языке еще не устоялся.

Explanation:
Тяжелая у вас ситуация. В доступной литературе (включая БМЭ и трехтомник Травматология и ортопедия)я не нашла ничего подобного, очевидно, это новая буржуинская концепция еще не успела попасть в отечественные книги. В такой ситуации есть два выхода:
1) идти в библиотеку и поднимать отечественную периодику либо искать специалистов по остеогенезу;
2) переводить в лоб -- ведь кто-то должен быть первым, так почему не вы?

Осмелюсь предложить что-нибудь вроде:

проникающий/ползучий остеогенез/костеообразование
