Explanation:
Downstream means later in the process. If this is embryogenic then downstream is in a later more developed embryo. Upstream genes must act as precursors so the development proceeds in the correct order.
Hox genes are body pattern regulators that set up cell fates. Hox genes control body plan domains in order from head to tail (anterior to posterior) and this is reflected in the order of the genes on the chromosome. Hox genes are clustered so their physical order is the order they are expressed in with early activators setting up conditions for those activated later.
Ubx is downstream to the axial patterning Hox genes and control and regulates the thorax development.

Расположение генов в Hox-кластерах строго упорядочено. Первый ген необходим для развития головы, последний – хвоста. У человека этот ген репрессирован, но, всё же, встречаются редчайшие случаи рождения хвостатых людей. Внешне картина включения Hox-генов напоминает эстафету – каждый предыдущий ген включает последующий, расположенный в цепочке.
