When cooling down, metal retraction will cause a tight (interfering) contact that results in good fixation (locking) of the inserts as well as good thermal exchange with the cooling plate. Preferably, the grooves have a dovetail cross-sectional shape and the base portion of the inserts fitted therein has a mating shape.
