Всупив в драку, из нее не так просто «выступить» :) Музыка с дракой у меня с трудом объединяются, но вот, что все же получилось:
Прежде, чем ввязываться в музыкальную перепалку.
… в музыкальный поединок.
… в музыкальную схватку.
Или чуть дальше от оригинала, но с сохранением неизбежности негативных последствий от того,что сделал: …прежде, чем бросаться в музыкальный омут с головой.

Ниже даю ссылку на отличный пример употребления «musical fray». Выражение явно имеет экспрессивную окраску, «сантименты» присутствуют. :) Будь это просто «вышел на сцену» или что-то столь же сухое, в оригинале употребили бы другой оборот.

Blank Frank. Eno and Fripp make up for their sin of Driving Me Backwards. More stridence, more shrieking. A song written by the two of them (Baby and Driving were both Eno’s own children), this is like being clouted after the subdued magnificence of On Some Faraway Beach. But of course this is the point. Eno is screaming “Wake up and listen.” He is thrusting us back ***into the musical fray*** and once again we’re doing battle with the music (in an entirely good way, we’re being forced to interact with the song and the album as a whole). Regardless, Blank Frank is just a gorgeously tense piece of music that thought not quite on par with Baby’s on Fire (but what is?) it is truly desperate. Eno’s vocals by the end make some of Bowie’s hysterical shrieking on Heroes and Look Back in Anger seem like gentle melodic balladry. I probably forget this track more than I should and so here I say: Greatgreatgreatgreat.
