вопрос к русским американцам: я перевожу front porch как "веранда" понимая под этим широкое крыльцо,навес под которым у входа так любит сидеть пожилой люд на юге в креслах качалках. там же обычно Бандерас выходя из бара крошит своих фрагов. (сужу по фильмам конечно :-) Какое русское слово должн быть употребелено:веранда крыльцо или...?? чтобы русский человек живущий в америке представил себе именно такой элемент коттеджа. А может это просто крыльцо без этих всяких навесов? заранее спасибо!

все ж таки в основном она/оно крытая/ое :) но вполне может быть и крыльцо, если небольшое. Тогда на веранду не тянет, а все равно porch.

Explanation:
(крытая, естественно, и передняя) посмотрел по картинкам для американских детей тоже. Хотя словарь даёт вариант "терраса"(думаю, что это возможно как 2-ой вариант) как американский тоже, а на самом деле это "портик" с точки зрения строгой строительной терминологии.
