Nothing is old here, little is built of brick or stone. Most of the houses are wood-framed and clad in planks, their steep pitched roofs tiled with wooden shingles.

я догадываюсь, что имеются в виду такие дома из деревянных перекладин, где между брусьями насыпали всякий мусор и замазывали его потом белым, но я не понимаю, как это перевести, чтобы было понятно
