It is commonly the case that there is no actual tax liability on the gains realised a sale of residential property because (i) the property is or has been the principal or main residence of the owner or (ii) the property is owned by a person who is not resident in the UK (those who are not resident do not have a liability to UK Capital Gains Tax).
