"...in the leftmost position" may be fine in some contexts, but "all the way to the left" works better in others. It depends on the nature device.

If the lever positions are limited (as in the 4-5 positions on an automotive transmission) положение probably needs to be translated and "in the leftmost position" is the way to do that.

HOWEVER, if the lever slides on a continuum, "position" can be omitted. What the author means is simply, "move the lever all the way to the left."
