Ovo je jedan od termina koji se već prilično odomaćio u srpskom jeziku u donekle
transformisanom obliku. Može se prevesti sa „pokazatelj“ ili „standard“. Razlika u prevodu između „pokazatelj“ i „standard“ sastoji se u tome da li se dati „benčmark“ nameće kao
nešto što se mora ispuniti, tj. dostići, što bi odgovaralo prevodu „standard“, ili je u pitanju
referenca, tj. „pokazatelj“ u kom pravcu bi neki proces trebalo da se odvija"
