IT polje je definitivno vrlo komplikovano za nas prevodioce, jer su se mnogi izrazi odomaćili u srpskom jeziku ili pak imaju neke rogobatne prevode. Svi koji se rade u IT sektoru će znati šta je malware, spyware, adware, grayware.
Objašnjenje bi bilo sledeće. Virus i malware (malicious software) su OPASNI za vaš kompjuter, mogu da naprave ozbiljnu štetu.
Kao prevode nalazimo - virusi i maliciozni programi, zlonamerni softver...
Grayware je sveobuhvatni pojam za vrstu programa koji nisu toliko opasni, ali su nepoželjni, iritirajući, ili sakupljaju podatke iz vašeg računara. U grayware spadaju: adware (pop - ups, reklame...), spyware (špijunski programi), dialers (kontrolišu modem)...
Dakle, rekla bih da ne postoji određeni pojam kao prevod, nego nepoželjni programi, generalno gledano.

Ovde se jasno kaze da Adware i Grayware nisu virusi, cak ih ne prepoznaju antivirus programi!
Grayware is a very broad term for all of those computer nasties that are annoying but not necessarily totally destructive, including adware, joke programs and dialers. Unfortunately, your antivirus program might not remove grayware (in fact, one antivirus program maker was sued by a grayware creator for blocking the installation of their program!)

Jedan primer iz prakse za koji se opredeljujem iz razloga što ni jedan, pa čak ni "šaljivi" virus, ne može da ne napravi bar nekih usputnih problema u funkcionisanju, ili neometanom korišenju računarske opreme:
"...Zbog toga imam običaj da kažem da su ovi današnji virusi (relativno) bezopasni iz jednostavnog razloga što je obično dovoljno da se sačeka par sati da se neka od jakih antivirusnih firmi baci na posao i nađe rešenje..."

Evo šta sam htela da kažem prethodnim komentarom...
Ne mogu da pravim klasifikovanje pojedinačnih virusa na malware i grayware, jer ih verovatno ima najrazličitijih vrsta.
Ali, sve što mi neovlašćeno uđe u sistem i pravi bilo kakve probleme u radu sistema ili u njegovom neometanom korišćenju (koliko god oni mali bili) je neka vrsta virusa.

Definicija računarskog virusa, po kojoj se vidi da on pokriva i "malware" i "grayware":
