When an offender leaves prison, or receives a community sentence, he will be 'put on probation', which means he will be supervised and supported by a probation officer.
An offender will be put under probation supervision when:
• a judge sentences him to a community sentence, as an alternative to prison
• the Parole Board decides the offender can be released early from a jail sentence
• the offender is automatically released from prison after serving three-quarters of their sentence |
