A warden system provides a reliable way for the Embassy to reach U.S. citizens and non-citizen naitonals in the event of an emergency, disaster, or threat, and to distribute other information of interest to the private U.S. community. Wardens typically, but not always are American citizens who are long-term residents of the host country, in this case the United Kingdom and who have built up a significant system of contacts within the American expatriate community in which they reside. Wardens also may be representatives of organiations or companies with large American populations. A warden's main responsibility is to transmit messages sent by the Embassy to the Americans registered as part of the warden's geographic or organizational zone. |
