Se trata de un documento sobre el programa AERONET de la NASA. Una de las responsabilidades es la siguiente:

"Assist in integration of ground-based aerosol concentrations and properties for EOS-era validation of satellite aerosol retrievals as parte of the international federated sun photometer network..."

EOS es el Sistema de Observación Terrestre.

Si considero "era" por "era" en español no me parece que tiene sentido la estructura. ¿Qué opinan?

hay una oposición entre "pre-EOS" i 'EOS-era" [o "EOS-Era"] - es decir sistemas de observacion anteriores a EOS.
"Use data from pre-EOS satellite missions and aircraft instruments ..."
En mi opinion no se trata de validación del periodo o de la fecha, sino de la detectión del contenido de aerosoles ....
