Los 48 the abajo/los EE.UU. contiguos


Explanation:
As mentioned by Maria Teresa. The Lower 48 is the name Alaskans give to the states separated from them by Canada.
Hawaii is also excluded.
But more formal will be los EE.UU. contiguous. Anyone knows why the double E and U?

neutral  María Teresa Taylor Oliver: The E and the U are repeated twice in the Spanish abbreviation (it's an abreviatura and not a sigla) because its a plural noun phrase. Same as RR. HH. for "RecursoS HumanoS" :-) \ It'd be "los 48 DE..." BTW...
