Me apareció en el contexto de una explicación sobre las partes de un traje espacial. Lo llaman "bladder layer" o simplemente "bladder". Les copio el párrafo completo: "You’re really asking a very small amount of material to stop a particle coming in at 7 km/second. You can see the entry hole from the test and it has many, many layers ending with what's called the bladder. And this is a pressure retaining layer. That's about a two to three-millimeter hole. A four-millimeter for an EVA suit on the soft goods this material would be consider catastrophic.

Todo traje espacial están confeccionado con varios tejidos, especialmente si la prenda está prevista para salir al espacio.
Capa exterior: es blanca o de material reflectante para disipar la mayor cantidad de luz y calor posible.
Capa de kevlar: suele estar colocado en el interior y su misión es proteger los tejidos interiores de desgarros y de pequeña basura espacial que pudiera producir cortes o perforaciones con la consiguiente pérdida de presión.
Algodón: es la parte interior para proporcionar un tacto agradable, evitar pérdidas de calor y absorber posibles sudoraciones del propietario.
Estas capas no tienen porqué ser únicas sino dobles o triples y pueden resistir el impacto de un objeto con el tamaño de un guijarro de río. Para partículas más grandes no se garantiza la resistencia; pero si se produjera un agujero del tamaño de una moneda las mochilas podrían proporcionar aire durante unos 30 minutos.[1]
