English to Spanish translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Agriculture / composting
English term or phrase: dairy manure

"Although Co-Composter was initially developed to describe co-composting of dairy manure with other solid wastes, it may also be used to model municipal solid waste and yard waste systems which do not include dairy manure."

Muchas gracias

estiércol líquido

Explanation:
This is the usual translation for "slurry" which is the more usual term for dairy manure. boñiga is what it would be if it were dry.

29 mins
-> Seems fairly common to me - see above. Isn't purín mainly used for pig slurry? I agree re boñiga (although DRAE doen't specify).

disagree  Mary Georgina Hardinge: The text doesn't says slurry, it says dairy manure

Notes to answerer

IMO, it is not necessay to distinguish between solid or liquid due to the composition of manure itself and because the text says "with other solid wastes"...
16 mins
-> Claro. Gracias Toni. I agree that solid is superfluous.

1 hr
-> Thanks Mary. I can't imagine dairy manure being anything else.

disagree  DLyons: I think the context given is misleading!
1 hr
-> Really? Seems pretty clear to me. Frankly whether it's liquid, solid or a slurry seems pretty irrelevant in the context. I really don't think you have reason to disagree and I shan't disagree with you even if I think that your's is at least incomplete.

agree  isabel murillo: estiercol de vaca, that's all, as Toni says

  -> Thanks Isabel.

estiércol de granja

Explanation:

All yards produce waste from pruning, lawn mowing and other routine plant care activities. Composting is a way to reduce the volume of organic wastes" www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/garden/07212.html
27 mins

To model (...) waste systems...

Reference information:
John P. Chastain, and James J. Camberato

MANURE PRODUCTION
Dairy animals produce about 1.61 ft3 (12.0 gal) of fresh manure (feces and urine) per 1,000 lb
average live weight per day. The manure contains 14.4 lb of total solids per AU per day. The
volatile solids production is 11.9 lb per AU per day.
The actual volume of manure that must be handled on a dairy is typically more than 1.61 ft3/AUday.
Additional solids can be added from wasted feed, freestall bedding, and soil tracked in from
outside lots. Additional water is often added from waterer wastage, milking center waste water,
water used to clean floors, and flushing of alleys. The variation of manure production for dairy
facilities will vary with the solids content (TS) as shown in Table 3.1.
