Its two-room layout was also typical, the kitchen and HEARTH being on one side of the chimney wall with a bedroom on the other.

I believe 'Hearth' means 'fireplace' which is different from 'chimney'

chimenea o fogón


Explanation:
a mí la palabra "hogar" me hace pensar en "home" más que a un sitio donde se hace fuego y creo que es este significado que tiene la palabra "hearth" aquí.

Bueno, sigo en lo mismo: \"Home, sweet home\" se traduce como \"Hogar, dulce hogar\" no?
Si no gusta la palabra \"fogón\" se puede buscar otro sinónimo que seguro habrá.
