English to Spanish translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Archaeology
English term or phrase: WAILINGS
Hi everyone.
The following paragraph has been taken from a book dealing with archaeological researches in UK. Lots of technical jargon has been used. In the second sentence, I just can not grasp the meaning of the words WAILING and ROBBER. I have never seen them in a technical context. I have browsed over many dictionaries but have not found a right equivalent in Spanish for both words. Please, wood me. Thanks

RAUL

…A qualified engineer becomes vitally important, being able both to take on board the archaeological considerations and to consult with piling contractors in a language they both understand. For example, it may be possible to design the positions of wailings crossing the site to fit along the lines of robber trenches or other linear cuts, thus minimizing the archaeological damage when they are inserted.

Robber trenches
The stone from ruined stone buildings was often removed to build a new structure. When the stone from the foundations was removed an empty trench would remain showing the course of the walls. These empty trenches are called 'robber trenches' as the stone has been robbed from them
