Este término aparece en un texto sobre arte. Creo que el texto en inglés no es el original, sino que se trata de una traducción del chino. Contexto:

Podría hablarse también de 'la idiosincracia de Hong Kong' o 'la idiosincracia hongkonesa' pero creo que esa palabra es demasiado amplia, por lo que abarca costumbres, valores y características ya sean de signo positivo o negativo. Mientras que lo que quiere expresar el texto fuente es que hay un caudal de recursos culturales muy positivos en 'Hongkongism' (que yo propongo traducir con 'lo hongkonés'). Me interesará mucho leer los aportes de otros colegas. ¡Suerte!

Antes de decidirse por una opción, conviene saber a qué se refiere.
No creo que sea algo tan simple como la cultura, identidad, esencia...etc. de Hong Kong.
En la primera cita, viene definido. Como bien dices, el texto no es original.
"He said that this (Hong Kongism) is the bearing of the development of the Chinese race in Hong"
¿Qué significa "bearing"? No suena muy inglés.
Creo que quieren decir el "rumbo del desarrollo" de HK.
¿Rumbo hacia qué?
Hacia una economía de mercado, que a su vez es el ejemplo del camino hacia la modernización del resto de China que menciona el la segunda cita.

Es decir, se escoja el término que sea como traducción, si has de incluir un "subtítulo", creo que debería reflejar esta idea ...de HK como pionera, guía, el que marca el rumbo a seguir, el norte... "whatever"..... No un simple "typical Hong Kong" ;-)
