English term or phrase: Phrase
I am looking for a very elegant way to express the phrase with capital letters in Spanish, specially 'switch to'. It is intended to be a very formal speech!

He had intended to speak in French, but at the last minute, at the request of the President, he SWITCHED TO SPANISH, SINCE (REFLECTING THE GLOBAL SITUATION, AS HE POINTED OUT)
Hilda O'Hara
Pls see whole phrase below
Explanation:

optar y remarcar

Explanation:
Hola. I read like this: "en vista de la situación, -tal como él mismo remarcó -, optó por el español". No real switching here, he didn't say a thing before. The switch is from a thought (speaking French) to a final decision (speaking Spanish). Cheers :-)
