La frase es:
"How brightly then will burn the fame of its author, when civilization will have known that it was saved by his efforts and by his eager love of all that is not barbarous."

El contexto es el siguiente. Se trata de una carta en la que el director de una importante publicación estadounidense le agradece a Winston Churchill (en 1946) un cuadro que éste ha pintado. El "then" hace referencia al siglo XXI: "I expect my son to treasure it (the picture) and carry it safely into dhe 21st century".

¿Podría traducirse como "encender"? La frase quedaría: Con cuánto brillo encenderá entonces la fama del autor....

Explanation:
Hola Clarisa,

en realidad encender no tiene el mismo sentido... es justamente brillar, que es en mi opinión una buena colocación para "fama" - por eso transformaría el adverbio que contiene el lexema de brillo en un "cuánto" de intensidad, mezclando así los dos sintagmas en uno solo: así ganas también en economía lingüística :)
