English term or phrase: the odd comet

The existence of these short period comets is consistent with a solar system far younger than a million years, let alone 4 billion years, with some now speaking of yet greater ages. This is the most obvious explanation, but in order to make the evidence consistent with a very great age for the solar system, evolutionists propose a vast cloud of billions of comets, not seen but only believed to exist, just outside the Solar System which now and then a passing star disturbs by its own gravity, so as to cause ***the odd comet*** to be dragged into motion around our sun. This cloud is called ‘Oort’s cloud’ after the author of the original idea.

Al estar hablando de los cometas que componen esa nube, puedes reformular la frase de manera que aluda los mismos. Yo te propongo esas dos opciones, pero seguramente haya tantas como cometas, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que el adjetivo que aparece es "odd", que da mucha cancha...

En cuanto al significado de "odd", quieren decir que "alguna vez", "ocasionalmente", o sea, algo inusual, no calculado, no cronometrado. No quieren decir que el cometa sea especial o raro, sino su frecuencia de aparición.
