English term or phrase: deadbeat airbag
Se encuentra en el siguiente contexto: "The Evolution lander might also use so-called deadbeat airbags to cushion its landing. The airbags look like a pillow that inflates under the lander before it touches down and would replace the so-called bouncing ball airbags which the original Beagle employed".

Muchísimas gracias de antemano.

bolsa de aire sin rebote
Explanation:
A distinction has been made between "deadbeat airbag" and "bouncing ball airbags"; deadbeat is usually a legal pejorative, which is why I thought the same thing you thought at first.

You must interpret the difference: deadbeat here means that they are designed to neutralize and absorb the kinetic energy it is meant to receive. Bouncing ball airbags sound like they will do exactly that: bounce about when something is dropped on them.

Buena suerte!

bolsas de aire para amortiguar / de amortiguación

Explanation:

Explanation:
This is a type of air cushion which inflates prior to impact and provides a soft landing without bouncing. The drawback to the bouncing ball type is that it is unpredictable after the second bounce.

I don't know whether a deadbeat airbag system would work for something as big as a MER rover ...

Thanks, Ed, but if we say "cojín de aire" is the same as saying only "airbag", so the "bouncingless" characteristic would be omitted.
