The text refers to safety when driving.
The sentence in question is the following:
"Always use a spotter when backing up and check behind your vehicle prior to moving".
I believe it refers to the "espejo retrovisor".
Is that right? I've never seen this term before, but it makes sense to be the mirror you have to check when backing.

Hola Luna,

Normalmente cuando se recomienda cuidado al retroceder y se quiere indicar los espejos, se menciona claramente "check your mirrors". Creo que aquí "spotter" se refiere a una persona que te ayude a estacionar o hacer la maniobra de retroceso (es algo que muchas veces se ve en Europa).
Para mi marido (inglés) el término "spotter" le parece medio ambiguo, pero que sería muy raro que se refieran al espejo retrovisor.

aparentemente se relaciona con remolques; las fotos muestran un espejo articulado a bola, es decir, que se puede orientar a cualquier posición; es retrovisor, pero está fuera de la cabina del conductor

si quieres buscar páginas donde puedas ver la foto, googlea *mirror+spotter* (la mayoría de los hits para spotter tienen que ver con los que 'descubren autos usados' y otras cosas por el estilo)
