Speed Limits for Designated Vehicles
The nature and size of some vehicles prevents them from being driven safely at the higher speeds often achieved by passenger cars on highways and freeways. The California Vehicle Code prevents certain types of vehicles from exceeding 55 miles per hour on any roadways, regardless of posted speed limits. These include
a) A motortruck or truck tractor having three or more axles or any motortruck or truck tractor drawing anyother vehicle.
b) A passenger vehicle or bus drawing any other vehicle.
c) A schoolbus transporting any school pupil.
d) A farm labor vehicle when transporting passengers.school busses, farm labor vehicles, vehicles carrying explosives and trailer busses.
e) A vehicle transporting explosives.
f) A "trailer bus". A "trailer bus" is a trailer or semitrailer designed, used, or maintained for the transportation of more than 15 persons, including the driver, and includes a connected towing motor vehicle that is a motor truck, truck tractor, or bus.
