Un comentario. La palabra "amortiguador" se confunde con "shock absorber", que es un dispositivo totalmente distinto del de esta pregunta. Para ruidos es mejor usar silenciador.

Adjunto algunos enlaces de sitios argentinos en que hablan de los silenciadores. También va el enlace al Eurodicautom, donde para "muffler" aparece la traducción de "silenciador". Al hacer en el Eurodicautom una búsqueda inversa, es decir, de español a inglés de "amortiguador", aparecen referencias a dispositivos para disipar impactos, calor, pero ninguna referencia a algún dispositivo disipador de ruidos.
