50. The dealer told me I was required to purchase an extended warranty to get the promotional interest rate. But the paperwork I signed said it was optional. Do I have to purchase it?
If the paperwork says the warranty is optional, the dealer can’t require you to purchase it. This practice is called “loan packing,” and it’s illegal. If the dealer is mistreating you, file a complaint with the FTC and your state attorney general. Also, you may want to consider contacting a private attorney for assistance.
