me llevó tiempo llegar hasta aquí, pero creo que dí con la solución.
parece que tras eclosionar al pez todavía se le puede llamar "larva", que sería el que en tu texto figura como alevían en "alevín turn into fry". mira este documento que encontré:

Al terminar la incubación se rompe la cáscara y nace el pequeño pez, al que se le denomina larva; esta presenta una bolsa con vitelo, adherida a su cuerpo, por esta razón se le denomina alevín con saco vitelino. De este saco va a tomar su alimento durante 22 días aproximadamente. Cuando ha absorbido un 60 - 75 % de la bolsa comienza a nadar y es necesario pasarlo a canaletas donde se inicia el suministro de alimento en polvo.

Con mi respuesta quiero apoyar a Alvaro y a Michael. Efectivamente, en el texto de arriva llama "alevin" a lo que en español sería "larva" y "fry" (pececillo) a lo que en lenguaje especializado se diría en español "alevín".

Mirad el texto que también he encontrado sobre las fases de crecimiento del salmón. La página es del "Sistema de Información Ambiental del Principado de Asturias - España".

..."Tras la eclosión, las larvas permanecen ocultas en la gravera e inmóviles, alimentándose del saco vitelino al que continúan adheridas. Se denominan entonces alevines vesiculados. Sin embargo, pasadas del orden de cuatro semanas, se han desecho de los restos del saco vitelino y se dispersan por el río, ocupando áreas de profundidad somera y corriente rápida donde se alimentan principalmente de larvas de insectos.

Los alevines tienen un comportamiento muy territorial, defendiendo respecto a sus congéneres los lugares de alimentación y las oquedades del lecho en que se ocultan. Las altas temperaturas de los ríos asturianos permiten un rápido desarrollo de los alevines, que para el final de su primer verano de vida puede alcanzar ya de 8 a 10 cm de longitud y tener las características morfológicas propias de los pintos, muy similares a la trucha común".

  -> Sí, en inglés. Pero en español, si ves el texto de arriba, el alevín alcanza al final de su primer verano 8 - 10 cms. Y eso no es una larva, es un pez pequeño, un "alevín".
