En lo que concierne a la vigencia de una orden, o sea, el tiempo concedido al broker para hacerla efectiva, hay tres tipos diferentes. La primera es la denominada orden por el día (day order), que como su nombre lo indica expira al final del día. Si para entonces no ha sido ejecutada, se cancela. La segunda es una orden abierta (good till canceled), más conocida por sus siglas en inglés GTC, que permanece abierta en la lista de transacciones pendientes del broker hasta el momento que pueda ser ejecutada.
