What is Churn?
Churn rate is defined as the ratio of monthly subscriber losses to the number of present subscriber. The present subscriber number is defined as the number of subscribers that exists at the beginning of the month plus the number of new subscribers added during the month.

Churn Rate = Losses / (Beginning subscribers + Gross Adds)

The churn rate is the sum of the total monthly churn.

Causes for Churn

Churn is a well known phenomenon in the cellular and long distance companies, specifically in the US where it's possible to have up to 8 cellular / PCS telecom companies in the same area, and tens of long distance companies. However, in the local telephone industry, churn is a brand new word. Anyway the local companies are modifying their business plans by adding this new cost. In the short term that means the cash flow will decrease. Actually their cash flow is higher than any company in the US. This is a slow change, but irreversible no doubt.

There are many different reasons that drive the subscriber to leave its telecom company and choose a new one. Most of them try simply to find out the better rates
