La idea de \"destino\" sugiere que es imposible cambiarlo. Mira lo que hay en el DRAE:

Destino. hado (fuerza desconocida que se cree obra sobre los hombres y sucesos). 2. Encadenamiento de los sucesos considerado cmo necesario y fatal. 3. Circunstancia de serle favorable o adversa esta supuesta manera de ocurrir los sucesos a alguien o a algo. 4. COnsignación, señalamiento o aplicación de una cosa o de un lugar para determinado fin.

En cambio, en inglés sí se considera sinónimo de \"future\" (Merriam Webster\'s Unabridged).
