English to Spanish translations [PRO] Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs / New York ID Card
English term or phrase:Acronyms
I am translating a NY State ID Card issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. There are two acronyms or abbreviations that are driving me nuts. E: None R: F1
I know that "R" refer to the type of proof of identity you submit with your application (in this case, a passport with an F1 visa), so it could stand for Restrictions. Then I suspect E stands for Endorsements, but I am not sure as how to translate it into Spanish for Spain in this context.
If you have any suggestions, they will be much appreciated.
Suerte!
Like I say, you are not required to define these, they are not language, they are codes. As such, unless you can POSITVELY determine the meaning, you are 100% justified in leaving them as is.
Jack, if I can't solve it here, I will. The thing is, I need to deliver very early in the morning. Another one of those much dreaded "rush" jobs. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I really appreciate how you all guys are helping out.
It's just an ID card issued by the DOMV in NY for someone who is not a driver. I am almost positive that R stands for Restrictions, meaning they only issue it because you provide them with one of the acceptable documents )another colleague is helping me with this one and he is 90% sure that this is the case.) By the way, my mistake, it does not say F1 but A1, I just realized a minute ago. I just hope we all can solve it so next time someone has to go thru this, he or she will have it a little easier :-))
I was a commercial driver for a while and I have never ever seen that a Driving License includes any reference to the driver's immigration status. But, of course, it could have changed.
F1 may be the type of vehicle this driver cannot drive. For example, if he/she does not have a passenger endorsement cannot drive commercial passenger vehicles... Or something like that. YOU could look in the agency that issues driving licences in Spain.
They would drive anyone nuts. You are not required to define these; you are not a magician. If you cannot find a definitive answer (not a guess), then leave as is.

Explanation: NonCommercial Driver Licenses CLASS E: Any non-commercial motor vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) less than 26,001 pounds, including passenger cars, 15 passenger vans including the driver, trucks or recreational vehicles and two or three wheel motor vehicles 50 cc or less, such as mopeds or small scooters. (see below). Farmers and drivers of authorized emergency vehicles who are exempt from obtaining a commercial driver license must obtain a Class E license.
O sea, es una categoría, tipo, de "registro" de conducir (a la ARG)
R es la residencia, tipo, categoría, como gustes, y es como la visa: F1

The NYS driver license classes include:
Operator, Class D: Issued to drivers age 18 or over, or to drivers age 17 with Driver Education. Valid for passenger cars and trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,000 lbs. or less. A Class D driver can drive a vehicle that tows another vehicle (for example a trailer) that has a maximum gross weight of 10,000 lbs. or less. A Class D driver can tow a vehicle with a GVWR of more than 10,000 lbs only if the combined weight rating of the two vehicles is 26,000 lbs. or less. See the important information about changes for Class D drivers that result from a law that eliminates the Non-CDL Class C license. Taxi and Livery, Class E: Issued to drivers age 18 or over. Valid for the same vehicles that a class D driver can drive, plus for-hire vehicles that carry 14 passengers or less.

NYS recognizes your foreign driver license if you remain a resident of the nation that issued the license. You do not need to have a NYS driver license to drive in NYS unless you become a resident of NYS.
